All set for Solway Autumn Classic Weekend

Everyting is “GO!” for the three events this weekend.  The Allerdale Amble starts at the Maryport wave centre at lunch time on Saturday and the Rowrah kart Circuit on Sunday from 10.00, the cars returning there around 15.00

Solway Autumn Classic Weekend

The Solway Autumn Classic Weekend takes place this weekend with an excellent entry of competitors from all over the country.  The Solway Rally was an iconic stage rally in the 70s and 80s, with the first one giving Malcolm Wilson his first rally win. Following the success of the Cockermouth Revival Weekend last year the Solway name has been revived for three major events.

The fun starts on Saturday (October 22^nd) with the Allerdale Amble touring assembly and an informal concours d’elegance at the Wave Centre in the historic harbour at Maryport, the original home of the famous White Star Line. The Amble takes in a 75 mile route in northCumbria with a tea halt half way round at Thursby. The cars assemble at the Wave frommidday.

 

On Sunday the Solway Historic Rally takes place with the start and finish at the Rowrah kart circuit from 10.00 and a series of tests in north and west Cumbria. The entry includes cars from the fifties, sixties, seventies and early eighties. MGs, Minis, Triumphs, Cortinas Lancia and Saabs are amongst the names on the entry list. The Solway Saunter touring assembly takes place over a similar but slightly longer route. The first tests are on the kart circuit where there is excellent viewing.  The lunch halt is at Hope’s Auction in Wigton and the cars return to Rowrah in mid afternoon for the final test and the awards presentation. The rally is sponsored by Caterite Food Service.

 

The event will again support local good causes including the Cumbria Kart Club’s Let’s Go Karting For Kids”.
